Fractional CO2 Laser Resurfacing Procedure in New York, NY
What is Fractional CO2 Laser?
Touted as one of the best innovations in age-reduction technology, Fractional C02 laser therapy works by gently vaporizing the epidermis, or outer skin layer, with intense and precise wavelengths oaf light. It can literally erase years off your beautiful face, and is one of the most popular treatments in the 50-70-year-old age range. The fractional nature of this laser allows skincare professionals to resurface the skin with far fewer complications than non-fractionated, ablative laser therapies.
The process works by the delicate removal of designated columns of damaged skin in a safe, methodological way. Fractional CO2 does not damage the surrounding healthy skin but instead stimulates the body’s natural healing process to “push out” the damaged skin and regenerate healthier skin. The new Fractional C02 laser allows our NYC skin experts to precisely treat both deep and superficial skin layers while maintaining strict control over the depth, area and intensity of ablation. Fractional C02 therapy also heats the dermis, or inner layer of the skin, which promotes collagen production. Collagen, a vital structural protein that decreases as we age, helps the skin remain healthy, tight and voluminous.
Conditions it treats:
Fractional C02 can be used for Age spots, Sun spots, Freckles, Liver spots, Lentigines, Fine lines, Acne, Deep wrinkles, shallow wrinkles, Stubborn scars, Uneven pigmentation, Skin laxity, Dull skin tone, Skin textural issues, Warts and Birthmarks. It can be used to treat common and stubborn wrinkles, Laugh lines (lines around the mouth); Crow’s feet (lines extending from the corners of the eyes); frown lines or “The Elevens” ( lines between the eyebrows). Also an effective treatment for crepey eyelid and neck skin.
It is not the best treatment option for pigmented skin, which has a higher tendency of Hyperpigmentation during the healing process, however, ask one of our dedicated skin experts about a possible operational laser mode that works for pigmented skin. This treatment is not advised for pregnant or nursing women, individuals who have taken Accutane within the last 6 months, diabetic individuals, and individuals with a history of radiation to the face.

What to Expect:
At Rejuve Clinic, we begin every treatment with a consultation where we get to know you and your cosmetic expectations. We take a complete medical history which assists in determining the best treatment option. We will ask about any medical illnesses, previous skin treatments, medications, vitamins and allergies.
A physical examination of the area to be treated will be conducted next by a board certified doctor. Crucial for making sure a proper diagnosis is made, an exam also helps the medical staff to understand the cosmetic condition. With the diagnosis in hand, the treatment team will make a recommendation. During this consultation, you are encouraged to ask any questions you may have and express your concerns. Our primary goal is a satisfying outcome
Discomfort varies during this procedure, but can be easily minimized with topical anesthetics or mild sedative medications. Most patients are comfortable after applying a soothing numbing cream and directing cool air from a fan towards the treatment area. Each patient will also be given protective glasses to protect his or her eyes during the procedure. Next, one of our skincare experts will use a thin, easy-to-maneuver handpiece to apply pulses of light to your skin. If anything, it may feel like a rubber-band snapping against the skin. The length of the procedure varies and depends on the specific skin condition being treated.
After the procedure, it may feel like you have a bad sunburn for 12-48 hours. You may experience redness, mild oozing or dry and flaking skin. Very rare side effects include hypo or hyperpigmentation ( dyschromia), wound formation or an infection. Infection is more common if proper aftercare is not conducted, and sometimes antibiotics and antivirals are prescribed as preventive measures. Contact dermatitis, or a type of skin allergy, can occur during the healing phase, and may be aggravated by certain lotions or face products. Acne or Milia may appear but usually spontaneously resolve. Scarring is another rare side effect, and often caused by infection or a poorly trained technician who applies excess heat, thereby surpassing the body’s ability to heal itself. This is one reason the staff at RejuvClinic highly recommends going to a reputable skincare clinic run by a licensed medical doctor.
Be advised that it will take between 7-14 days for your skin to heal, which may hinder some of your social functions. Usually, you can start wearing makeup by the 7th day, but your skin may remain pinkish and sensitive for 1-3 months following the treatment. It is important to follow all of our post-procedure instructions, avoid the sun, wear sunscreen and make all follow-up appointments at our NYC clinic so we can ensure you are healing properly. If you have any signs of infection or follow-up questions, always call our clinic.
The results of a Fractional Co2 treatment are very dramatic and compelling. Noticeable improvements are seen over the following six months. While the healing time is longer than many of the other laser resurfacing procedures, over time your skin will look much healthier, younger, more even-toned and feel fresh and vibrant. This treatment is highly effective, and a maintenance treatment may be required as far as one to two years out.
