Botox Injections in New York
What is Botox Cosmetic?
Botox (botulinum toxin) is a neurotoxic protein that is used for medical, cosmetic and research use. Botox is widely used in cosmetic treatments for the prevention of wrinkles. Results from Botox cosmetic treatments are usually seen within 3-5 days, and the results of the treatment can last up to four months, although they do vary with each patient. Wrinkles are known to disappear within 24 to 48 hours after the Botox injections.
Most people see wrinkles diminish up to one week after the procedure. The procedure is both non-surgical and non-invasive so most patients can resume normal activities immediately. However, it is recommended that patients do not rub or massage the area that has been treated and remain upright for several hours after the treatment. Physical activity should also be limited immediately after treatment.
Botox was approved by the FDA in 2002 to temporarily improve the appearance of moderate to severe Frown lines between the eyebrows. Since then it has been widely used and has been approved for treatment of other aesthetic conditions.
Botox results in providing a smoother and a more youthful looking face with fewer wrinkles. It is especially effective in treating deep wrinkles. Patients with deep smile or frown lines, Crow’s feet and stress lines in the forehead can benefit from Botox treatment. In particular, Botox is used for treatment of:
How Does Botox Work
Botox targets the underlying cause of frown lines and crow’s feet – muscle contractions that are the result of frowning and squinting over the years. When the Botox treatment is given, it reduces the muscle activity resulting in the smoothing of crow’s feet lines and frown lines. In order to remove the lines, three areas of the orbicularis oculi are injected with Botox on the side of each eye. In the frown lines area, five injections are administered into the muscles of the forehead – one in the procerus muscle and four in the corrugator muscles.

In order to treat deep wrinkles in the face that are usually the result of flexed muscles, Botox injections are provided to mitigate the wrinkles and to leave the patient with a more youthful appearance and smoother face.
MicroBotox is the use of diluted Botox injected in small, multiple doses in the area that is being treated. The primary reason for using MicroBotox treatment is to ensure that the effects of Botox are evenly spread out and there is less risk of over-treating the specific area. It is most often used for the forehead and has also been shown to improve neck wrinkles as well as the texture of the skin. It can also be used in people with recalcitrant acne problems.
The major advantage with Micro Botox is that it allows the skin to rest and heal. It can be an effective choice for people who have not derived any benefit from other treatments. Again, results for Micro Botox are visible within 5 to 7 days and can last up to 4 months in most cases. There is minimal pain associated with the treatment and for those with a lower level of pain tolerance, there is always the option of a topical numbing cream that can be applied to the area. The procedure takes approximately thirty minutes.
Botox Brow Lift
Botox injection can be used to create a lift to the brow line. This creates a more open eye look, and the Botox is injected in a few of the muscles of the area. The effect of a Botox Brow Lift lasts 3 to 4 months. In most cases, people can expect a brow lift of 2 millimeters.
Botox is injected in the crow’s foot area with the primary goal of lifting the tail of the brow. Botox is approved for treating Cervical Dystonia and Glabellar lines. It is also approved to treat Strabismus and Blepharospasm. The biggest advantage of using Botox for Brow Lift is that it is a Non-surgical Procedure and much more economical than surgery. Most people choose to opt for Botox Cosmetic treatment because it is minimally invasive and less expensive than a surgical brow-lift.
Botox Treatment For Jaw Tension And TMJ
Botox is used for the treatment of Temporal-Mandibular Joint (TMJ) disorders as well as associated jaw tension and pain. Botox is injected into the facial muscles that are sore and are causing discomfort. Botox injections can be effective in eliminating headaches that can result from teeth grinding and stress. The injections can also minimize lock jaw. Evidence to date indicates the effectiveness of Botox for the treatment of TMJ. It treats the area by stopping the muscle from the unconscious movement of the jaw that can often cause headaches and pain. The Botox treatment is quick and effective and most of all, it is a non-surgical solution.
The injections can be administered in the doctor’s office in New York City, and there is no need for a hospital stay. Results can be seen within one or two days of treatment. The length of the procedure is dependent on the number of injections required but in most cases, the treatment can be completed within 10 to 30 minutes. The procedure is associated with minimal pain and for those with low pain tolerance, Rejuve NYC offers the option of numbing with a cold pack or anesthetic cream or Happy Gas for those who are scared of needles.
Botox And Migraine
Botox is licensed for the treatment of a chronic migraine. While the treatment has not been shown to be effective for any other type of a headache (such as tension-type headache, cluster headache, episodic migraine), there is evidence that it can provide relief for chronic migraine.
The Phase 3 Research Evaluating Migraine Prophylaxis Therapy (PREEMPT) trial was conducted with 1384 patients with chronic migraine and were treated with either Botox or Placebo randomly. Those treated with Botox received fixed-site, fixed-dose injections every 12 weeks for 56 weeks. When the trial began, patients had an average 20 days of headache each month but at six months follow up after treatment with Botox, the days of headache declined to eight days each month. At 12 months follow-up, 70 percent of the patients treated with Botox had ≤50% number of headaches. The treatment was well tolerated with the most commonly observed side effects being neck pain, muscular weakness, and drooping of the eyelids. No serious or irreversible side-effected were reported during the trial.
Botox is recommended only for patients with chronic migraine – headaches that occur 15 or more days each month. Botox is not considered to be the first line of therapy for chronic migraine, patients should have an informative discussion with their New York health practitioner, such as Dr. Marina Gafanovich MD, before deciding to opt for Botox treatment.

Dr. Marina Gafanovich gives personalized attention to each patient to determine where to administer Botox injections. This is done by evaluating the patient’s ability to move their muscles in the face and neck area. Since each person’s requirements different from the other, it is important to see the location, size and use of the muscles that have created the lines that need to be treated. She will also determine if the patient only needs Botox treatment or if there is a need for facial fillers like Juvederm.
For patients who are afraid that they might not be able to tolerate the pain, we offer options of topical anesthetic cream. However, we assure you that any discomfort that you may experience during treatment will be mild and brief. Dr. Gafanovich understands the concerns of her patients and knows that they want to retain their natural look and not appear overdone or frozen because of Botox overtreatment. Dr. Gafanovich always puts her patients’ interests first and would never recommend unnecessary treatment or repeat treatments more often than every two months.
