Natural Remedies for Skin Care: Homemade Facial Masks

Exfoliating Brown Sugar Mask

There’s nothing better than finding natural remedies for your skin care needs. With so many chemicals and manufactured components in our makeup, lotions, and skin care products, it’s a relief to discover beauty products that are made of clean and natural ingredients. Even better is finding natural remedies for your skin that you can make at home, with items already found in your kitchen.

Homemade facial masks are the most effective and nourishing facial masks I use; here are some of my favorites:

Moisturizing Avocado Mask

1/2 Ripe Avocado

Mash avocado with a fork and apply evenly to face. Leave on for 15-20 minutes, then rinse with cool to warm water. If you’d like extra moisturizing, or have extra dry skin, add 1 tablespoon of olive oil to the mix.

Exfoliating Brown Sugar Mask

1/4 cup brown sugar

2 tablespoon regular milk

Mix the two ingredients well and massage into face for 1 minute. Leave on skin for 10-15 minutes before rinsing off with cool to warm water.

Soothing Yogurt Mask

1/4 cup plain yogurt

2 drops essential oil; preferably lavender or jasmine.

Mix yogurt and oil, apply evenly to face, and leave on for 10-15 minutes. Rinse with warm water. I usually use Greek yogurt, but regular yogurt is good as well. This mask is great for irritated and/or sunburned skin, and when using these natural remedies for your face, you can choose to add the oil or not; it all depends on the dryness of your skin.

Firming and Pore Shrinking Egg White Mask

1-2 egg whites

Whip the egg whites in a bowl until fluffy. Apply evenly to face and leave on for 15 minutes or until dry. Rinse with warm water. If you’d like to add a little nourishment to this mask, add 1 teaspoon of honey.

Refreshing Cucumber Mask

1/2 cucumber; chopped

1 tablespoon regular yogurt

1 tablespoon of chopped fresh parsley

Puree all the ingredients in a blender till smooth. Apply evenly to face and rise off with warm water after 15 minutes.
