Exercises To Tighten Loose Skin After Pregnancy

As the skin is elastic, it easily stretches when a woman gets pregnant. This stretching can result in loose skin after childbirth. If you are looking for ways to tighten loose skin after pregnancy, it is best to opt for abdominal exercises. Such exercises can help get rid of loose skin, while toning and conditioning muscles.

However, before embarking on an exercise routine, consult your doctor. Start with light exercises, such as walking or swimming, until your body returns to normal. This can take as long as six weeks after childbirth. As your stamina improves, you can begin with higher intensity exercises.

Bridge

Lie flat on your back and bend your knees. Tighten the abdominal muscles and elevate your hips, so that your hips, knees, and shoulders are aligned horizontally. Hold the position until you take three deep breaths, and then return to the starting position. Repeat the exercise once more. This exercise will not only tighten the abdominal muscles, but also the loose skin on your abdomen.

Kegel Exercise

This exercise helps to tone the pelvic floor muscles, tighten the vagina, prevent urinary incontinence, and facilitate healing of the perineum. Contract the muscles that you would use to stop the flow of urine. Hold the position for 10 seconds and then relax. Repeat this exercise 10 times, and try to do each set at least 3 times a day. As the vagina contracts to its post-pregnancy size, it will also help the loose skin to tighten.

Pelvic Tilt

To tighten loose skin on the abdomen, you must aim to tighten the abdomen muscles. Try doing 10 to 20 pelvic tilts 5 times a day. Lie flat on your back. Tighten the abdominal muscles and then bend your pelvis in an upward direction slightly. Hold the position for 10 seconds before returning to the starting position. Repeat the exercise.

Be Careful

If you experience pain, dizziness, shortness of breath, palpitations, increased bleeding, or faintness, stop exercising immediately and get in touch with your obstetrician. Drink ample water before, during and after exercising to prevent dehydration. Most new mothers will find it difficult to make time for exercising. However, if you seriously want to tighten loose skin after pregnancy, try to take out time for exercise at least three times a week.
