At Home Facial: 10 Steps of a Spa Facial

Exfoliating Facial Scrub

If you are anything like me you love the results of a spa facial, but not the price, here are the ten steps of a spa facial I follow at home to get the same results.

  1. Get All Your Supplies Ready

I always forget to set as my supplies aside ahead of time and am rummaging around the bathroom in the middle of the facial trying to find what I need for the next step. So I have made a note to myself to keep all my advanced stuff in a basket, so it is ready every time I do an at-home facial. I stock the basket with a towel, washcloth, small bowl for water, facial cleanser, exfoliating scrub, mask, toner, eye gel, blackhead remover, moisturizer, and anti-aging serum. The only other thing I need is a cucumber.

  1. Wash Face

The first thing I do is wash my face with a gentle cleanser such as Philosophy’s Purity Made Simple One-Step Facial Cleanser, $20, Ulta.

  1. Steam to Open Pores

I fill the bowl with water and put in the microwave for about a minute just to get the water warm enough to let off some steam. I test the water to make sure it isn’t too hot and put the towel over my head and the water bowl so the steam can open up my pores (if you do this at home, test the water to make sure it isn’t too hot).

  1. Extract Blackheads

I have pretty bad blackheads on my nose, and my favorite part of the facial is when they start taking out all the stuff clogging my pores. So to make my at-home facial just as great, I use the Revlon Blackhead Remover, $4.99, Ulta, to get all the oil and dirt out of my pores after the steam has opened up my pores.

  1. Exfoliating Facial Scrub

Next I use a facial scrub to slough away all the dead skin. Right now one of my favorites is Queen Helene Natural Facial Scrub, $4.29, Ulta.

  1. Facial Mask and Cucumbers for the Eyes

I follow the exfoliating with a deep-cleaning mask, but because the cover doesn’t go around the eyes, I put cucumbers on my eyes. A good mask to use is Yes To Cucumbers Calm Care Soothing Facial Mask, $14.99, Ulta.

  1. Toner

A toner will close up the pores and balance my skin and get it ready for moisturizer; I like to use Bliss Daily Detoxifying Facial Toner, $26, Ulta.

  1. Serum

Next, I apply an anti-aging serum such as Neutrogena Anti-Aging Booster Serum, $16.99, Ulta.

  1. Eyes

A gel for my eyes helps with puffiness and circles under my eyes. Peter Thomas Roth Anti-Aging Cellular Eye Repair Gel, $42, Ulta, is my favorite.

  1. Moisturizer

Last but certainly not least, I apply my favorite moisturizer, Yes To Cucumbers Complete Care Facial Hydrating Lotion, $14.99, Ulta.
